Texas Longhorn and Bluebonnets. The Texas Longhorn is a breed of cattle that originated in the southern United States and is particularly associated with the state of Texas. Known for their iconic horns, which can grow up to six feet in length, Texas Longhorns have a rich history and cultural significance in Texas and beyond.
The breed's ancestry can be traced back to the Spanish cattle brought to the Americas in the 16th century. These cattle, known as Criollo, were hardy and adapted well to the harsh conditions of the American Southwest. Over time, these cattle interbred with other breeds brought over by European settlers, resulting in the distinctive Texas Longhorn breed.
Texas Longhorns were once a common sight in the American West, where they were used for meat, milk, and hides.
